September 2022 Update

Your September 2022 Update

Hello, AUNP members,

We hope that you’ve had a restful summer and that you were able to find time to relax and recharge with family and friends! AUNP and our bargaining committee are feeling energized and ready to push forward with the bargaining process towards finalizing our first-ever collective agreement with AHS and Covenant Health. Here is an update on our bargaining plan.

Bargaining resumed on September 8th and 9th, with meetings between the AUNP bargaining committee and the AHS/Covenant committee. Both sides wish to move forward expeditiously. There was efficient progress made on non-monetary articles, and we have successfully signed off on a fair number of them, with more pending sign-off in the next few days. The plan is to move on to monetary items during the upcoming bargaining sessions, which will occur in mid-October. At that point in bargaining monetary proposals are exchanged, and it will be time to share our complete monetary proposal with you, our members. Thank you for your understanding as we strategize the timing of this release.

In the meantime, members should have seen evidence of their increment increases on their September 7 pay advice. Individuals who are already at the top salary band will not see an increase. If you have questions, please let us know directly at [email protected] or [email protected].

Lastly, please note that changes at CRNA mean that all NPs are now required to obtain their own base liability coverage through Canadian Nurse Protective Society (CNPS). For those NPs who already have purchased supplementary coverage through CNPS, this does not satisfy the requirement for basic coverage, and you will need to purchase the base coverage through either a membership in Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN) OR directly through CNPS (https://cnps.ca). Those NPs who are members of AAN, a voluntary organization (fee is $50), will receive a $20 discount off the CNPS annual fee. The annual membership term will begin September 30, so plan to purchase your coverage prior to that date (Approximately $185). AUNP strongly encourages NPs to also obtain supplementary coverage through CNPS, as the basic coverage will not support you in the event of a CRNA investigation. For more information, reach out to [email protected].

As always, thank you for your support and patience as AUNP works on your behalf to obtain a fair and forward-looking collective agreement with employers! You are the heart of AUNP, and we greatly appreciate you.
