Anne Summach

Anne Summach is a Nurse Practitioner with experience in care across the lifespan, but most recently with older adults. She is extremely practical and client-focused and is committed to the holistic health and wellbeing of her clients. Her career began in hospitals, working in and managing Neurosciences units. She moved to the USA in 2005 with her family, and completed her NP training at Southern Connecticut State University. She worked in primary care in both Connecticut and North Carolina (adults) for 6 years prior to returning home to Edmonton in 2015. Anne is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing, and coordinates the Nurse Practitioner program there. She also is the Director of the DRAGONFLY Project, a quality improvement initiative aimed at helping reduce the impact of senior frailty in the community.

Lesley Lapierre

Lesley LaPierre is a nurse practitioner in adult critical care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB.  She began her nursing career in neurosciences and critical care in 1997 and has had extensive experience in acute care including clinical and administrative roles. Her passion for clinical care and evolving nurse practitioner-based models of care inspired her to pursue a Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Alberta. She graduated and started practice in 2009, initially in nephrology and internal medicine and returning to critical care in 2011.  She acts as a clinical associate with the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta and frequently presents at Canadian critical care conferences.  Pursuits outside of her professional role include exploring Alberta and canoeing her way through Alberta’s waterbodies.

Kim is a newer Nurse Practitioner to the organization. She practices in the Calgary area. She has served on the NPAA board for the past three years as a Director at Large and then as the Treasurer. 

Secretary

Merissa May

Merissa holds a MN-F/AANP degree from Athabasca University. She is a staunch supporter of the Nurse Practitioner role, volunteering with the NPAA as well as serving on the AUNP board. Her current practice is in the geriatric population in Calgary where she resides with her husband and three kids. Though she is a newer practitioner, her drive to forward the profession and fresh ideas are great assets to the board.

District Representative Edmonton Region

Jessica Deckert-Sookram

Jessica has been an NP since 2013 and currently works at the Strathcona Community Hospital in the emergency department, ambulatory care clinic and IV therapy clinic. She also works with the Medical Assistance in Dying team in the Edmonton Zone. Her nursing experience as an RN was at the University of Alberta Hospital in the emergency department as a project manager for the Vital Heart Response STEMI program in Northern Alberta.

Jeremy Wiens

Jeremy is the Calgary District AUNP representative. He completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree (BScN) at the University of Northern British Columbia. Afterwards He moved to Vancouver and worked at Vancouver General Hospital on the General Surgery/GI/ENT ward for 5 years. In 2013, Jeremy began the Masters of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Calgary, completing it in 2015. Since graduating, Jeremy has been working as a  Nurse Practitioner on the General Surgery team at South Health Campus in Calgary.
